Seven Refugees Arrested for Terrorizing Dzaleka, Stealing K10.7M Property

Police in Dowa arrested seven refugees at Dzaleka Refugee Camp on allegations that they have been terrorizing at the camp and stealing property valued at K10.7 m.

Dowa police spokesperson, Alice Sitima, said the suspects, comprise six Congolese nationals and a Rwandan, who are between the ages of 10 and 18, adding that police have since recovered the stolen property.

Sergeant Sitima narrated that police received complaints from residents at the site, and later instituted an investigation that led to the arrest of the suspects.

She said the suspects who include Bonface Fisito, aged 18, and six other minors, led the officers to the locations where they had sold the stolen items.

The recovered property, includes plasma screens, laptops, cellphones, radios, sub-woofers, clothes, groceries and other items.

The suspects will appear before court soon.
