Balaka Police have arrested eight individuals suspected of engaging in activities aimed at disturbing public peace.

According to Balaka Police spokesperson, Gladson M’bumpha, the suspects, who are from Ng’onga Village, have been disrupting operations at a site where Portland Cement is constructing a factory.

The arrests followed an incident where the suspects allegedly blocked company vehicles from accessing the site, demanding compensation for the land on which the factory is being built.

Reports indicate that the arrested individuals are part of a larger group that has been protesting, claiming that the company initially paid them insufficient compensation for the land.

Meanwhile, M’bumpha has confirmed that the suspects will appear in court soon to face charges related to their actions.
