Police in Karonga have arrested Walinase Ng’ona, 36, who works as a bartender at Ipyana in the district, for allegedly wounding 30-year-old Gift Msiska, who was a customer.

He is expected to appear in court soon to answer a charge of unlawful wounding contrary to section 241 of the Penal Code.

According to Karonga Police Station’s publicist, Margret Msiska, the incident occurred on 2 May as Msiska was in company with three friends at a drinking joint.

“When the other three left the place, Ng’ona attacked Msiska with a beer bottle, stabbing him on the throat, at the back of the neck and at the back of the head for reasons not yet known,” she added.

Ng’ona was arrested by community policing members who dropped him at Ipyana Mobile Police Camp before being brought to Karonga Police Station.

Ng’ona hails from Kwiyula village, Senior Chief Kyungu in Karonga District.

Meanwhile, the victim is at Karonga District Hospital, where he is still receiving medical attention.
