Kaputa Immigration Office has detained 39-year-old Congolese national Ilunga Tambwe after he was found with an assortment of drugs believed to have been stolen from Kaputa Hospital and hidden in 20-litre containers.
Tambwe was initially arrested for failure to report to the nearest immigration officer upon entry into Zambia and for unlawful stay.
He was apprehended on 30th April, 2025, at his residence in Chashele Village during a joint operation by immigration and other security agencies following a tip-off from a concerned member of the public.
Immigrations Chief Public Relations Officer, Namati Nshinka, has confirmed that a subsequent search of the suspect’s house led to the discovery of the stolen drugs.
He has further stated that five Zambians, including a Clinical Officer, a Nurse, a Registry Clerk, a General Worker and a Carpenter, all based at Kaputa Hospital, have been picked for questioning in connection with the drug theft.
