The Court in Lilongwe has reserved to Monday 12th May ruling on bail application by Lin Yunhua, a Chinese national who is answering charges of corruption and an application by the state for continued detention of the suspect.
Lin is suspected of bribing public officers to be living a free life while serving his 14 years sentence on wildlife crimes.
He is now answering charges of alleged bribery and attempting to manipulate prison officials and sealing presidential pardon.
Appearing in court today Wednesday state prosecutor Peter Sambani said the suspect should not be released on bail having a history of jumping custody.
However the defense lawyer Patrick Kalimbuka argued otherwise saying what the state said alleging he was living outside the prison while serving sentence is just an allegation and said everyone has a right to bail regardless the circumstances.
Principal Resident Magistrate Benjamin Chulu is hearing the matter.
