Man to spend 12 years in jail for defiling 9-year-old girl in Lilongwe

Mkukula First Grade Magistrate Court in Lilongwe has sentenced Jossam Bickton Kaipa, 27, to 12 years in prison for defiling a 9 year old girl.

Kaipa committed the crime in his house on 14 May this year when the victim was on her way back from her grandmother’s house to have lunch.

Well-wishers saw the little girl crying, and she revealed the ordeal which was reported to Lumbadzi Police by her mother, and a medical report conducted by Chinkhuti Health Centre confirmed she had been violated.

During mitigation, Jossam pleaded guilty but asked for leniency as he is a young man, a breadwinner and can reform.

Nonetheless, Magistrate Judge Mervis Sulumba slapped the convict with the 12 years in agreement with State Prosecutors, citing that the victim was traumatised.

Jossam hails from Njombwa Village at Traditional Authority Njombwa in Kasungu District.
