A third person has been killed by an angry mob in Mchinji District over allegations of being involved in the murder of Group Village Head Chalapuka.
This follows the earlier killings of two other individuals who were also suspected by community members of playing a role in the chief’s death, which occurred last Tuesday.
According to reports, all three individuals were from the village under Group Village Head Chalapuka, which falls under Traditional Authority Mavwere in Mchinji.
Sources indicate that the latest victim was being sought after by villagers who believed he had knowledge about the incident. He was captured and killed on Thursday by enraged residents who are still demanding answers surrounding the chief’s mysterious death.
So far, police have not released an official statement regarding the latest incident, but investigations into the circumstances surrounding the mob killings and the death of the chief are said to be ongoing.
Authorities have since condemned the acts of mob justice and are urging communities to allow the law to take its course.
