Zambia Police in Chisamba District, have launched a manhunt following a deadly shooting incident that occurred in the early hours of May 23, 2025, at the Fish Pond Gold Mine Camps in the Chipembi area.

According to a statement released by Assistant Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi, the incident was reported by 21-year-old Eddy Mwandu, a small-scale gold buyer from Mukululu Compound in Kabwe. Mwandu informed authorities that his cousin, Gift Mwandu, aged 29, and another individual, Victor Mulenga, 35, had both been shot by unknown assailants.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the victims were asleep in their tent when they heard gunshots outside around 02:00 hours. Upon stepping out to investigate, they reportedly spotted three unidentified individuals at a distance before another gunshot was fired in their direction, striking both victims.

Mwandu fled the scene but returned shortly after and found his cousin and Mulenga wounded. The two victims were rushed to Chipembi Rural Health Centre, where Gift Mwandu was pronounced dead on arrival. Victor Mulenga was later referred to Liteta Hospital for further medical treatment.

Police say the suspects fled the scene and remain at large. The weapon used in the attack, believed to be a shotgun, has not yet been recovered.

The Zambia Police Service is urging members of the public with any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects to come forward and report to the nearest police station as investigations continue.
