Lawyer Arrested for Drunk Driving and Failing to Stop at Roadblock

A 43-year-old lawyer, Bob Chinkango, was arrested on June 10, 2025, at around 3:30 AM, after failing to stop at a roadblock in Bangwe.
According to reports, Chinkango was driving his Mercedes Benz (registration number CZ 3) from Nguludi towards Limbe when he ignored the roadblock and attempted to divert around the barriers.
Police officers in pursuit of the suspect chased him, and after reaching Weaving Factory at Enegen Filling Station, Chinkango turned left towards Namiyango location.
An officer fired a warning shot into the air to stop him, but one of the bullets accidentally hit the passenger-side windshield of his car.
When Chinkango finally stopped, he was identified as a lawyer and was found to be heavily intoxicated.
A breathalyzer test revealed that Chinkango had an alcohol volume of 1.3mg/l.
He was taken to the hospital for treatment of a suspected bullet scratch on his right hand and was later charged with three offenses:
Conduct (for his behavior during the incident)
,Failing to comply with a signal to stop at a roadblock (Section 39(3) of the Police Act)
,Drink and drive (Section 128 of the Traffic Act)
Chinkango is currently in police custody pending court proceedings.
