Police in Chiradzulu have arrested a 27-year-old ex-convict, Alex Stone Jackson, on suspicion of attempting to commit robbery in Mususe Village, Traditional Authority Nkalo.
Chiradzulu Police Public Relations Officer, Cosmas Kagulo, confirmed the arrest and said the incident occurred in the early hours of June 7, 2025.
According to Kagulo, Jackson and a group of accomplices attempted to ambush a local trader who had stepped outside. Upon sensing danger, the trader shouted for help, prompting residents to respond swiftly.
“A mob chased after the suspects and managed to apprehend one of them, whom they beat to death. The deceased has since been identified as Jackson’s brother,” Kagulo said.
Alex Stone Jackson, also known locally as Mulukunya, was arrested shortly after the incident. He reportedly admitted to being part of the group and confirmed the deceased was indeed his sibling.
Kagulo further revealed that Jackson had been recently released from Chichiri Prison on May 25, 2025, where he was serving a 9-year sentence for theft, committed in 2022.
Police are continuing their investigations and have warned the public against mob justice, urging citizens to always hand over suspects to law enforcement authorities.
