In a case that has gained widespread media attention, actor Derek Dixon has filed a $260 million lawsuit against filmmaker and producer Tyler Perry, alleging sexual harassment and assault.
According to the complaint, the alleged misconduct began in 2019 after the two met at an event and Perry gave Dixon a role on the series Ruthless.
Dixon claims that during a visit to Perry’s home, he became intoxicated and passed out in a guest room, only to wake up with Perry in bed, touching him inappropriately.
He also alleges that Perry later sent him sexually suggestive text messages and used his industry influence to pressure Dixon into silence.
The actor further claims that his character on The Oval, a gay and homeless store clerk, reflected Perry’s alleged efforts to control vulnerable actors.
Dixon states that he endured years of inappropriate behavior out of fear that speaking out would jeopardize his career. The lawsuit details multiple incidents, including groping and unwanted advances, and says Perry offered financial incentives to keep Dixon on the show.
Screenshots of alleged explicit messages between Perry and Dixon have surfaced in foreign media outlets.
Perry’s legal team has denied the claims, calling the lawsuit “a scam” and insisting that the accusations are fabricated.
