A crowd gathered in Area 7, Machinjiri Township in Blantyre this morning as police recovered the body of a young Kabaza (motorcycle taxi) operator who was found murdered in the early hours of the day.

The deceased, identified as Mphatso Bitoni, was discovered with a deep stab wound to the neck, with the knife still lodged in the wound, indicating a brutal killing.

According to eyewitnesses who arrived at the scene, signs suggested that there had been a struggle before the attack. A broken motorcycle clutch lever was found nearby, along with a one-litre bottle containing petrol  believed to have been prepared by the victim for his work that morning.

Bitoni’s motorcycle was nowhere to be found, and police believe the attackers fled with it after committing the murder.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident. The tragic event has sent shockwaves through the local community, with residents calling for improved safety measures for kabanza operators.
