The National Bank of Malawi (NBM) has announced plans to transform Nguru Ya Nawambe Palace, the former residence of Malawi’s founding President Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda, into a Library and Museum in a move aimed at preserving his legacy and showcasing the nation’s political history.
This development follows Kamuzu Banda’s final wish as expressed in his Will to see his residence converted into a cultural institution that would educate and inspire future generations.
The planned Hastings Kamuzu Banda Library and Museum will be located in Kasungu and managed by the Nguru Ya Nawambe Museum Trust. Once completed, the facility is expected to become a significant national heritage site, drawing both local and international visitors interested in Kamuzu’s contributions to Malawi’s nationhood.
In a public call to action, NBM is inviting qualified individuals or consulting firms to apply for the position of Management Consultant to lead the museum setup. The responsibilities include developing governance structures, establishing digital systems, overseeing branding, and ensuring long-term sustainability of the project.
Applications are open until 4th July 2025, and interested parties are encouraged to submit their proposals before the deadline.
The project reflects the Bank’s ongoing commitment to preserving Malawi’s cultural and political heritage while also contributing to the nation’s educational and tourism sectors.
