Drama erupted outside the Mazabuka Magistrate Court in Zambia on Tuesday after two convicted United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres resisted police orders following their sentencing.
The incident occurred shortly after Magistrate Franz Zimba sentenced Life Moonga and Robson Mbewe, both aged 29, to three years imprisonment with hard labor for assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Following the court session, the duo refused to board the police van, insisting on walking to Mazabuka Police Station. In the process, they overpowered one police officer before a senior officer intervened and stopped them.
In a further act of defiance, Moonga and Mbewe openly threatened police officers and journalists, warning that their sentence was “too short” and that they would soon be out of prison.
Meanwhile, a group of supporters gathered outside the court, chanting solidarity songs and promising to provide food for the two while incarcerated.
The case stemmed from an incident on 17th May 2025, where the duo was found guilty of assaulting UPND Mazabuka Chairperson Wilfred Mulomba at a local church.
