Phalombe Police have arrested three Mozambican nationals for allegedly attempting to smuggle 600 litres of petroleum products across the border without proper documentation.

The suspects — identified as Frank Chinowa, 29, Frank Laston, 25, and Charles Maitana — all hail from Khoromana District in Mozambique. They were apprehended at the Likangala Border Post while trying to transport the fuel into Mozambique without a valid permit.

Phalombe Police Station spokesperson, Jimmy Kapanja, confirmed the arrests and stated that the trio is currently in custody. They are expected to appear in court soon to face charges of illegal possession and attempted externalization of petroleum products without authorization.

Authorities continue to warn against smuggling and emphasize the importance of adhering to border and trade regulations.
