Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Corporal Steve Muloke Sakachoma, a Zambia Army soldier who died while serving on a United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic (CAR).

In a statement released on Thursday, President Hichilema described Corporal Sakachoma’s death as a great loss to the country, the Zambia Army, and the international peacekeeping community.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Corporal Steve Muloke Sakachoma of the Zambia Army, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty while serving on a UN peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic,” President Hichilema said.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Army Commander, the Zambian peacekeeping contingent in CAR, and the entire Zambia Army.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all who knew him. We pray they find comfort and strength in God during this difficult period,” he added.

The President praised the late Corporal Sakachoma for his dedication and sacrifice in promoting peace and security beyond Zambia’s borders.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace,” President Hichilema concluded.

The United Nations peacekeeping mission in CAR, known as MINUSCA, has been carrying out operations aimed at stabilizing the country following years of conflict.

Further details regarding the circumstances of Corporal Sakachoma’s death and funeral arrangements are yet to be released.
