Learners from Katete Primary School have taken education into their own hands after following their teacher to a local beer hall, demanding to be taught right there and then.

A video circulating  on social media shows Standard Three learners, accompanied by their school’s headteacher, storming the drinking spot where their teacher was enjoying beers with his friends.

Armed with their blackboard, chalk, and duster, the determined learners, confronted their visibly intoxicated teacher, urging him to deliver the day’s lessons.

Despite the public embarrassment and the headteacher’s direct orders, the teacher already under the influence refused to comply. Witnesses captured the teacher boldly telling his superior that he didn’t care about the job and had no intention of teaching under the circumstances.

The bizarre scene has sparked mixed reactions online. While many have condemned the teacher’s unprofessional conduct, others have applauded the learners’ bravery and commitment to education.

As of now, authorities from the Ministry of Education have not issued an official comment on the matter.

Social media users, however, continue to praise the pupils for standing up for their right to learn, with some jokingly suggesting the learners deserve a national award for “civic responsibility in education.”
