A 44-year-old medical assistant, identified as Paul Kumala, died after his motorcycle plunged into a deep trench along the Mangochi Makanjira road last night.

Mangochi police Spokesperson Amina Daudi confirmed that the incident occurred at Chindamba village near Malindi at a section of the Makanjira road.

Kumala who was based at Lungwena Health Centre was riding a Yamaha motorcycle, from the direction of Mangochi heading towards Lungwena.

“When he arrived at Chindamba village, he reportedly failed to negotiate a right diversion due to excessive speed, causing him to lose control of the motorcycle. The bike then fell into a deep trench,” she says.

Daudi says as a result of the impact, Kumala who had no crush helmet sustained a severe head injury and a fractured right arm. He was rushed to Mangochi District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Kumala hailed from Jambo Village, Traditional Authority Mbenje in Nsanje District.
