United Transformation Movement (UTM) leader Dalitso Kabambe has blamed corruption and poor leadership for Malawi’s continued economic decline, saying the current government is full of greedy individuals enriching themselves at the expense of ordinary citizens.

Speaking at a rally held yesterday at Namasimba primary school ground in Nancholi, Blantyre, Kabambe lamented the rising cost of living, noting that “everything in the country has become more expensive,” causing widespread suffering among Malawians.

Kabambe criticized those in power for failing to act in the best interests of the people once they assume office. He assured supporters that the UTM party is committed to delivering real and lasting change if elected in the upcoming election scheduled for September 16.

Outlining his vision for development, Kabambe pledged to promote agriculture as a business, open new industries, and ensure that each council receives 100 billion kwacha annually. According to him, this funding would empower local councils to construct hospitals, schools, bridges, and roads, reducing the daily struggles faced by citizens.

He also promised to open more mines as a key strategy to boost the country’s economy and create employment opportunities.

The rally also featured a candle-lighting ceremony in memory of the late Saulos Chilima, the former UTM leader, with Kabambe and supporters honoring his legacy and reaffirming their commitment to continue his vision for the country.
