Zambia Mourns 8 Victims of Mpika Train Crash

A wave of grief swept across Muchinga Province in Zambia as eight victims of the tragic train and vehicle collision in Mpika were laid to rest on Saturday, July 5, 2025.

The accident involved a TAZARA train and a Toyota Noah, resulting in the deaths of all eight people aboard the vehicle. A solemn church service was held at Mulolesha Pentecostal Assembly of God Church, followed by burial at Kaombe Cemetery.

Addressing mourners during the service, Muchinga Province Minister Njavwa Simutowe conveyed a message of sorrow from President Hakainde Hichilema, who expressed deep sadness over the loss of lives. Minister Simutowe further revealed that the government had contributed K90,000 to support the funeral arrangements.

Earlier in the day, Minister Simutowe visited Chilonga Mission Hospital, where four survivors of the crash are currently receiving medical treatment. He was joined by Mpika Constituency MP Francis Kapyanga, who also extended his condolences to the grieving families.

The tragedy has left the Mpika community in mourning, as calls continue for enhanced railway and road safety measures across the country.
