Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has died at the age of 82 in a London clinic, where he had been receiving medical treatment since April.
Buhari, a former military ruler who later transitioned into democratic leadership, made history in 2015 by becoming the first opposition candidate to unseat an incumbent president in Nigeria.
His presidency, which spanned two terms from 2015 to 2023, was defined by a strong anti-corruption stance and efforts to combat insecurity across the country. However, recurring health issues often cast a shadow over his time in office.
Buhari’s passing marks the end of an era for Nigeria’s political landscape, with tributes already pouring in from leaders across Africa and beyond.
