President Lazarus Chakwera is expected to deliver a national address this evening, with many Malawians speculating that it could be related to the official launch of the 2025 general election campaign period.
A statement signed by Anthony Rodgers Kasunda, the President’s Press Secretary, confirms that the address will be delivered at 7:00 PM from Sanjika Palace in Blantyre, and broadcast live across major radio, television, and online platforms.
The address comes on the same day the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) officially launched the 2025 general election campaign period, which will run from July 14 to September 14, 2025. This has fueled public speculation that President Chakwera may use the opportunity to outline his administration’s expectations for a peaceful, transparent, and issue-based campaign season.
President Chakwera returned to Lilongwe earlier today after attending the consecration ceremony of Bishop Daniel Kalonga of the Anglican Diocese of Lake Malawi on Saturday.
While the exact contents of the President’s speech remain undisclosed, political observers believe it may touch on electoral readiness, national unity, and other pressing national matters.
