Police Recover All 47 Vehicles Fraudulently Taken by Mustafa Charles

Police in the Southern Region say they have successfully recovered all 47 vehicles that a Machinga man, Mustafa Charles, allegedly stole by pretending to borrow them before handing them over to his creditors.
According to Southern Region Police spokesperson Beatrice Mikuwa, the total value of money Mustafa fraudulently obtained through the scam is estimated at K310 million.
Mikuwa revealed that the 31-year-old suspect acquired 17 vehicles from one company, 11 from another, and the rest from individuals under the pretense of renting them, only to give them away to people he owed money.
“We are pleased to report that all vehicles reported as missing by their owners have been recovered,” said Mikuwa.
Despite the successful recovery, Mustafa has denied the charges, and the case is expected to be brought before court soon, where the police will present their witnesses.
Mustafa Charles who hails from Namunde Village, Traditional Authority Mulemba in Machinga,was arrested on May 19, 2025.
