Mchinji First Grade Magistrate Court has convicted and ordered a 43 year-old Zambian national, Moses Banda, to pay a fine of K180,000 or in default to spend 5 months in prison for illegal exportation of sugar to Zambia through unchartered routes at the border of Mchinji.
John Botoman, the state prosecutor of Mchinji Police Station, informed the court that the police arrested Moses Banda on July 04, 2025 upon being found with 58 bales of Illovo Malawi brown sugar in a hired vehicle along unchartered routes commonly known as “Pa mango” at the border.
In court, Moses Banda pleaded guilty to his own charge of illegal exportation of sugar contrary to Regulation 3 of Control of Goods ( Import and Export Licence) Regulation 2024 as read with Section 6 (a) of Control of Goods Act.
Moses Banda hails from Chanzala Village under Chief Mpezeni, in the district of Chipata in Zambia.
