Court Grants Bail to Former HR for Nsanje DHO Lufai Nachamba

The Nsanje Magistrate’s Court has this morning granted bail to Lufai Nachamba, the former Principal Human Resources Officer at the Nsanje District Health Office, who is facing charges of abuse of office.
Second Grade Magistrate Haneef Ngundende ordered that Nachamba pay K500,000 cash as a bail bond, while his two sureties have been bonded at K2 million each in non-cash.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Nachamba on Monday over allegations that he illegally introduced ghost workers on the Nsanje District Council payroll in 2021.
“We have arrested Nachamba on grounds that he allegedly introduced ghost workers on the council’s payroll,” confirmed Moses Mchacha, ACB’s Senior Assistant Prosecutions Officer.
The case has been adjourned to September 2, 2025, when it is expected to proceed to hearing.
Nachamba’s arrest adds to a growing list of public officials being investigated for fraudulent activities involving public funds.
