The Nkhunga First Grade Magistrate’s Court in Nkhotakota has convicted and sentenced 48-year-old Robert Budala to eight years imprisonment with hard labour for sodomy, contrary to Section 153(a) of the Penal Code.

State prosecutor Micheas Chatsira told the court that Budala committed the offence on July 10, 2025, inside a maize mill where he was working.

He invited the victim into the mill, gave him K2,000, and warned him not to speak about the incident. However, the victim later reported the matter to police forum members.

Budala pleaded guilty in court. In mitigation, he asked for leniency, citing that he was a first-time offender.

However, first grade magistrate Kingsley Buleya handed down an eight-year custodial sentence.

Budala comes from Mjuwa Village, Traditional Authority Kaphambale, in Nkhotakota District.
