MISA Malawi Mourns Veteran Journalist Gracious Chitakata

The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi Chapter has expressed deep sorrow following the untimely death of veteran journalist Gracious Chitakata, who passed away in Blantyre on Wednesday, July 16.
Until her passing, Chitakata served as a Media Consultant at Gazette Media, a media consultancy firm. Her distinguished career also included roles at Blantyre Newspapers Limited (now Times Group), Living Waters Church Radio, Joy Radio, Rainbow Television, and the Malawi Electoral Commission where she worked as a stringer.
In a statement signed by, MISA Malawi Chairperson Golden Matonga described Chitakata as an experienced and dedicated journalist who mentored many young media practitioners over the years.
“She will be remembered not only for her professionalism and vast experience but also for her cheerful personality and the guidance she offered to up-and-coming journalists,” said Matonga.
Born on August 27, 1976, Chitakata will be laid to rest at HHI Cemetery in Blantyre today, Thursday, July 17, 2025.
MISA Malawi has extended condolences to the Chitakata family, her colleagues at Gazette Media, and the wider media community.
“May her soul rest in eternal peace,” the statement concludes.
