The case of filmmaker Tumpe Mtaya, also known as Phwedo, returns to the Principal Resident Magistrate’s Court in Lilongwe today.

The case was previously adjourned on October 10 after the prosecution failed to produce the identity card allegedly used by the complainant to sit for her Form 4 examinations last year.

The court had ordered the prosecution’s investigating officer to appear today and explain the failure to comply with that directive.

Meanwhile, Phwedo, his lawyer, the prosecution team, and several fellow filmmakers have arrived at the court.

Phwedo is facing charges of repeatedly engaging in sexual activity with a minor and child trafficking—allegations he has denied.
