Acclaimed  Zambian actor Leo Simukoko, widely recognized for his portrayal of rebel leader Adamson Mushala in the 2019 Muvi TV biopic, has been acquitted of indecent assault charges by the Lusaka Magistrate Court.

The 33-year-old actor was facing allegations of indecent assault involving a 36-year-old lab technician who had reportedly given him a lift after World Theatre Day celebrations in 2023.

According to court testimony, the incident was said to have occurred at Simukoko’s Ranchdale Obama residence, where the woman alleged he attempted to force himself on her after she used the lavatory. The situation was said to have unfolded in a dimly lit house, raising questions during the trial about visibility and intent.

However, after a thorough review of evidence and testimonies, the Magistrate Court ruled in Simukoko’s favor, citing lack of sufficient evidence to support the allegations.

Simukoko, who had maintained his innocence throughout the legal process, did not immediately comment following the verdict but is expected to release a statement in due course.

The actor remains one of Zambia’s most promising talents in film and theatre and was widely praised for his performance as Mushala a role that earned him critical recognition both locally and internationally.
