A 6-year-old girl has been burnt to death in a petrol-caused fire in Sinda District of Eastern Province in Zambia.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred on July 23, 2025, around 19:00 hours.
Mr. Mweemba says the matter was reported by Bertha Banda, 30, the Councilor for Kapoche Ward, that a house belonging to Grace Banda, 25, of Kalimankana Village, had been engulfed in flames.
Mr. Mweemba says Grace Banda sustained minor burns, but tragically, her 6-year-old daughter, Eunice Zimba, suffered fatal burns.
Brief facts of the matter are that Abel Mwale, stepfather to the deceased, and Philimon Zulu, both of Kalimankana Village, arrived at the house with a 20-liter container of petròl and began pouring it into another container.
He says unfortunately, there was an open flame nearby, and the house quickly caught fire, resulting in everything being burnt.
He says the body of Eunice Zimba was retrieved from the inferno, but it was burnt beyond recognition.
He says Police officers visited the scene of the fire accident and found the house still ablaze.
The body has been taken to Kalindawalo General Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination and burial.
