Zambia Police have issued a stern warning to members of the public against the possession, production, and sharing of pornographic material emphasizing that even those who merely brag online about having such content are committing a crime.
Speaking in Lusaka, Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the law applies equally to anyone involved in pornographic activities, including those who comment on social media claiming to have explicit videos or requesting others to send them.
“Production, possession, and distribution you commit the same offence as the person who actually produced it,” said Hamoonga. “We urge members of the public that if you are possessing, producing, or distributing, you are committing the same offence. That’s what the law states.”
Hamoonga added that even individuals offering to share videos or providing phone numbers in comment sections are violating the law.
“So don’t be surprised if we visit you. Because by bragging or confessing publicly, you are already admitting to committing a crime,” he warned.
He further stated that those who may have produced adult content outside Zambia and are found with it within the country are also liable to arrest.
“To those producing, they face up to five years imprisonment, a fine between K6,000 and K30,000, or both. Even if the content was produced abroad, possessing it in Zambia is still a crime,” Hamoonga said.
The Police Service has urged the public to refrain from any engagement in pornographic material, whether offline or online, to avoid prosecution.
