Hulk Hogan, born Terry Gene Bollea, passed away at age 71 early on July 24 at his Clearwater, Florida home after suffering cardiac arrest, according to TMZ.
Medics had responded to a call and were reportedly parked outside his residence as he was wheeled out on a stretcher into an ambulance.
WWE confirmed his passing in a statement: “WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away.” The legendary icon, known for walking out to his theme song “Real American,” became one of pop culture’s most recognizable figures and helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s.
Hogan soared to fame after defeating the Iron Sheik and launching “Hulkamania,” marking one of the WWF’s most culturally significant moments.
He later dropped the heavyweight title to André the Giant in 1988, and after a steroid controversy stepped away in the 1990s while pursuing a Hollywood career in films like “Gremlins 2: The New Batch,” “Suburban Commando,” “Mr. Nanny,” and “Santa With Muscles.”
In 1994 he joined WCW, debuting his heel persona Hollywood Hogan before returning to WWE in the early 2000s.
