Zambia Police Recapture 13 of 19 Escaped Detainees

Thirteen out of nineteen detainees who escaped from police custody on May 19th in Zambia, have been recaptured, Luapula Province Police Commanding Officer Mwala Yuyi has confirmed.
Yuyi expressed optimism that the remaining six fugitives would soon be apprehended, revealing that police have established strong leads on their whereabouts.
According to the commanding officer, the escape was orchestrated by one of the detainees with alleged assistance from his mother, who reportedly smuggled in a pair of scissors during visiting hours. The tool is believed to have been used to unlock the cell.
Yuyi praised the public’s cooperation, stating that community support has played a vital role in tracking down the escapees. He added that the collaboration between the police and the community is a sign of growing trust and mutual confidence.
Investigations into the full circumstances of the escape remain ongoing.
