Scania Tanker Hits Sienta in Mzimba: Six Dead, Driver Missing

Six people have died following a road accident that occurred last night near Mzimba Bridge along the Mzuzu–Jenda M1 Road.
The crash involved a DPX Scania fuel tanker heading to Lilongwe, which collided with an oncoming Toyota Sienta while attempting to overtake another truck.
Mzimba police spokesperson Maria Banda said all six victims, whose identities are yet to be confirmed, died on the spot.
Several others sustained injuries and were taken to Mzimba District Hospital for treatment.
Mzimba South District Health Promotion Officer, Ellings Nyirenda, said three of the injured were later referred to Mzuzu Central Hospital due to the seriousness of their condition.
Others are still receiving care at Mzimba District Hospital.
Meanwhile, police are searching for the tanker driver, identified as Said Shaban, who allegedly fled the scene after the crash.
The tanker was reportedly loaded with fuel at the time of the accident.
