Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Governess for South Lunzu Constituency Caroline Mlenga has come out of her cocoon to endorse Independent Shadow Member of Parliament for South Lunzu Constituency Alex Achalume Chimwala ahead of the September polls.

Initially Mlenga supported DPP Shadow MP Veronica Ndalama who is representing the party in the constituency.

Speaking during the rally organized by Chimwala at Chitukuko Ground in Area 8, Machinjiri Township in Blantyre Mlenga accused Ndalama of bribing delegates during DPP primaries.

“Let me confess hear, MP Veronica Ndalama bribed delegates with money amounting to MK200, 000 each but without that Chimwala could have carried the day during DPP primaries.

“Now am urging the people of Machinjiri not to do similar mistakes that delegates did. If they want development in Machinjiri they should vote for Chimwala,” said Mlenga.

When asked why the sudden change of heart, Mlenga said Chimwala is a development oriented man.

“To be honest with you Chimwala is a man who has the heart to develop Machinjiri. He lost the polls during 2019 polls but he never stopped supporting the people of Machinjiri. He has drilled boreholes, constructed bridges, and supported the elderly with soft loans.

“Now once he is elected it means the people of Machinjiri will see more than this hence my sudden change to support Chimwala,” added Mlenga.

On his part Chimwala said he is deeply honored with Mlenga’s endorsement.

“The endorsement by governess Mlenga is a morale boost for my campaign trail and I urged all DPP supporters who did not vote for me during primaries to come forward and work together for the betterment of Machinjiri.

“Even if I lose the September polls I will still continue supporting the people of Machinjiri. All I want now is to see Machinjiri developing,” said Chimwala.

Coming to his manifesto, Chimwala has promised to construct a Youth centre, tarmac road, Secondary School and a main Market in the area.

Chimwala has also promised to construct a Technical College which will be linked to his mobile-technical college where people in the constituency are being taught different skills such as how to make soap, milk and the likes.

Malawians will go to polls on September 16, 2025 to elect Councillors, MPs and as well as the President.
