Battle lines drawn as MEC confirms Chimwala in South Lunzu Constituency

Independent Member of Parliament for South Lunzu Constituency Alex Achalume Chimwala is among 9 candidates that the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has approved to contest in the constituency ahead of the September 16 polls.
Chimwala faced numerous challenges ahead of his parliamentary bid and one of it being thieves invading is car and going away with his nomination papers.
But this did not distract him from contesting for the Parliamentary seat in South Lunzu constituency and now his name is on the final list of candidates approved by MEC.
“MEC wishes to thank all stakeholders, including political parties, candidates, and supporters, for their cooperation during the nomination phase.
“We urge all Malawians to remain engaged and peaceful as we proceed to the next stages of the electoral calendar,” reads in part the statement from MEC approving Chimwala and 8 other candidates in South Lunzu Constituency.
Chimwala has always been in the forefront doing development projects in Machinjiri township and some of the development projects being construction of bridges at Alizeyo Market in in Area 12, at Chikapa in Area 8, drilling of boreholes and wells at Kameza, Area 1 and in the area of Chief Mambwene.
He also championed the renovation of Nanthoka Police Unit.
As this is not enough,Chimwala has been sponsoring football and netball leagues in Machinjiri area using his personal money.
Meanwhile, Chimwala has lined up a number of development projects set to be done once he is elected as lawmaker on September 16, 2025.
