19-Year-Old Sentenced to 8 Years for Defiling 16 Year-old Gilr in Chiradzulu

First Grade Magistrate Court in Chiradzulu District has sentenced Yamikani Unyolo, 19, to eight years imprisonment after being found guilty on the offence of having sexual intercourse with a 16-year old girl.
State Prosecutor Joseph Banda said the crime occurred on July 21, 2025 when the victim quarreled with her mother and left for Blantyre on foot. But on her way, she met the convict who defiled her.
In court, Unyolo denied the charge, a situation which prompted the state to parade 4 witnesses.
In mitigation, the convict asked for leniency but First Grade Magistrate Smart Maruwasa slapped him with an 8-year jail term to serve as a deterrent to potential offenders.
