Six Ethiopians Arrested in Mzimba for Illegal Entry

Six Ethiopian nationals are expected to appear in court in Mzimba today on charges of illegal entry into Malawi.

Jenda Police Public Relations Officer, Precious Mzungu, confirmed the arrests, saying the suspects were intercepted on 19th August 2025 along the M1 Road as they travelled from Mzuzu heading towards Lilongwe in a silver Mitsubishi Pajero, registration number LA7841.

Mzungu said police had mounted an ad hoc checkpoint at Hoho area, where the vehicle attempted to speed past. Officers gave chase and managed to apprehend the suspects at Champhira Engeni filling station.

The six have been identified as Manish Digwbo (35), Mamush Habtomu (39), Wamishon Dego (33), Aknalem Danske (29), Abnzer Mathemos (32), and Abinet Bekele (31), all from Ethiopia.

The suspects remain in custody pending their appearance in court.
