A 30-year-old businessman and employee of Time Petroleum, Benjamin Kafula, has been committed to the High Court in Chinsali, Muchinga Province, to answer charges of murder and theft by servant.

This follows instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to proceed with the case.

The incident in question occurred on March 19, 2024, when Kafula and his immediate boss, Vipin Tiwari, were en route to deposit company funds at a bank in Nakonde. According to reports, Kafula was driving the vehicle when it rammed into a stationary truck along the Great North Road, just a few meters from their station.

Tiwari died in the accident, while Kafula sustained head injuries and a fractured leg. He was rushed to hospital and later arrested in connection with the murder charge.

Court records indicate that Kafula is accused of having murdered Tiwari on the specified date in Nakonde. He is also jointly charged with two other employees for theft by servant, after they allegedly stole over K600,000 belonging to the company.

Kafula and his co-accused will appear before the High Court for trial.
