Police in Lilongwe have arrested five individuals suspected of involvement in the robbery of 1,200 chickens valued at K10.2 million from a Central Poultry farm.

Lilongwe Police spokesperson Hastings Chigalu has confirmed the arrest and identified suspects as Nelson Gomani (51), Jailosi Mwale (31), Maxwell Felix (22), Fatsani Goman (20), and Albert Matope (40).

Chigalu explained that Nelson Gomani allegedly approached a farm guard, claiming he could help the group gain access to the premises. However, the guard alerted his employers, who then informed the police.

On the day of the robbery, the suspects reportedly used a Toyota Corolla to enter the farm. After loading the chickens into the vehicle, police, who had been secretly waiting, intercepted and arrested them on the spot.

Chigalu commended the farm guard for his vigilance, noting that the public’s cooperation is essential in helping law enforcement combat crime.
