Lawi’s Engagement Shocks Fans – Where’s Chantelle?

Malawi’s beloved musician Francis Phiri, better known as Lawi, has set social media on fire after announcing his engagement  but the bride-to-be is not the long-time partner fans remember.

Lawi has yesterday on 2 September posted stunning photos from his engagement ceremony with his new sweetheart, captioned: “Mama” in Awilo’s voice & I ❤️.

But instead of congratulations only, the comments section turned into a storm. Fans were quick to notice the absence of Chantelle Phiri, the woman Lawi famously proposed to on stage back in 2018 at Comesa Hall in Blantyre.

“I thought he was married to Chantelle Phiri. Who is she?” one shocked fan wrote. Others jumped in to defend Lawi, urging people to let him celebrate this special moment. “Imagine at your engagement, people bringing up your man’s ex… mmm sibho!” one comment read.

Lawi himself has remained silent, leaving speculation to run wild.

Rumors suggest that Lawi and Chantelle quietly broke up despite having a baby boy together. Chantelle is now said to be living in South Africa with their son, while Lawi has turned a new page with his mystery fiancée.

The “Amaona Kuchedwa” hitmaker had kept a low profile for years, last seen publicly with Chantelle during that unforgettable Easter Monday show in 2018. Now, with this surprise engagement, he has reignited public curiosity  and Malawians just can’t stop talking.
