Malawian artist Emmie Deebo has received a major boost for her Scholarship Fund after Prophet Shepherd Bushiri pledged to support the initiative, which has already attracted over 600 applications from needy students.
In a Facebook post, Emmie revealed that her bursary team has so far received 661 applications, with the first phase of her fundraising tour covering Mzimba, Rumphi, and Karonga expected to wrap up this week.
She explained that funds raised from her live shows and album streams will be directed towards scholarships, with successful applicants to be notified by September 15. The fund is projected to support 100 to 200 applicants with partial tuition, accommodation, and upkeep, while secondary school students in Community Day Secondary Schools (CDSS) will receive full tuition coverage.
Breakdown of the support package includes:
Partial Tuition: K125,000 – K200,000 per student
Accommodation: K80,000 – K100,000 per student
Upkeep: K50,000 per student
Secondary School (CDSS): Full tuition fees
Reacting to Emmie’s post, Prophet Bushiri congratulated her for the initiative, describing it as “uplifting and encouraging.” He further announced that his Bursary Office would provide meaningful support to help expand the fund’s reach.
“Stay focused, continue to care for others, and above all, never lose sight of your values. Put God first, and everything else will follow in its time,” Bushiri wrote.
The Emmie Deebo Scholarship Fund is fast gaining momentum as one of the grassroots initiatives empowering Malawian students through education.
