MEC to Use Head Porters to Deliver Ballot Papers in Hard-to-Reach Areas

The Chairperson of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), Annabel Mtalimanja, says the commission will engage 829 porters to carry ballot papers to areas where vehicles or even bicycles cannot reach.
Speaking at the National Elections Consultative Forum (NECOF), Mtalimanja explained that MEC has established a special committee to assess logistics ahead of the upcoming elections.
She outlined the transport resources required for smooth delivery of election materials, which include:
829 porters, 3,394 double-cabin vehicles, 548 lorries, 64 Coaster buses, 15 boats, 2 trains AND 265 motorbikes
Mtalimanja further revealed that through collaboration with government and its agencies, MEC will have access to at least 1,000 vehicles to support the process.
