The Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal has set November 18, 2025, as the date to hear an appeal by business mogul Thomson Mpinganjira, who is challenging his conviction and nine-year prison sentence for attempting to bribe judges in the historic 2019 presidential election case.

According to a court notice seen by Nation Online, the hearing will commence at 9 a.m. in Blantyre.

Mpinganjira, founder of FDH Bank, was convicted in 2021 after the High Court found him guilty of offering inducements to Constitutional Court judges presiding over the disputed election petition that eventually led to the nullification of the 2019 presidential results.

The businessman, however, has consistently maintained his innocence, with his lawyers arguing that the trial was marred by flaws.

In 2022, the Supreme Court granted Mpinganjira bail pending the determination of his appeal, which is now scheduled for hearing in November.
