Police in Lusaka are investigating the brutal murder of two Zambia National Service (ZNS) soldiers, Mwila Sonkwe and Potipher Tembo, one of whom reportedly had his hands severed.

Sources indicate that the bodies of the soldiers were partially charred and found beside their government-issued AK-47 assault rifles. The two were on duty at the Service’s Furniture Factory in Lusaka West when the incident occurred.

According to Brigadier General Mable Mulenga, ZNS Chief of Public Relations and Liaison, the soldiers, both experienced, were discovered unresponsive near heavy machinery at the factory. She added that the exact cause of the incident remains under investigation, with factory management and authorities working to determine what led to the deaths.

Preliminary police investigations suggest the possibility of foul play, and ZNS is collaborating closely with law enforcement to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The Service is treating this matter with the utmost seriousness and urgency it deserves,” Brigadier General Mulenga said, urging all ZNS staff to remain watchful and cautious. She assured that updates will be shared with the public as the investigation progresses.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families during this difficult time. ZNS Command will not rest until the circumstances surrounding this tragedy are brought to light,” she added.
