Two important witnesses are expected to testify today in the trial of popular actor Tupe Mtaya alia Phwedo, at the Lilongwe Magistrate’s Court.

Last month, on August 21, the witnesses, the mother of the girl involved in the case and the girl herself did not show up in court.

Because of this, the court gave the State another chance to bring them.

Defense lawyer Khwima Mchizi has said if the witnesses continue to stay away, the case may be dismissed.

Phwedo is accused of repeatedly defiling a minor and abducting her.

The case has been ongoing for nearly five months. At first, it was even described by some as a publicity stunt linked to the release of the recent film Welcome to Maula Prison
