Chitipa police have arrested two men suspected of smuggling sugar into neighboring Zambia.

The suspects have been identified as Moses Kadusike, 42, from Mwenefuvya Village, and Isaac Mumba, 30, from Ishalikira Village, both under the jurisdiction of Senior Chief Mwaulambia in Chitipa District.

According to Chitipa Police spokesperson, Sub-Inspector Gladwell Simwaka, the arrests were made on September 9, 2025, at around 8:00 p.m. along the Chitipa–Kanyala road. The suspects were found attempting to export 200 bales of sugar into Zambia without the required permit.

“They were intercepted by Ministry of Trade officials patrolling the area and later handed over to police for further action,” said Simwaka.

Police have seized the 200 bales of sugar along with a motor vehicle, registration number LA 1010 Canter, which was being used to transport the goods. The suspects are expected to appear in court soon to face charges related to smuggling.
