American political activist Charlie Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, has died after being shot during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. He was 31.
The incident occurred on September 10, 2025, around 12:20 p.m. local time, about 20 minutes into Kirk’s “American Comeback Tour” event. Witnesses say the gunfire came from a nearby building, forcing students and attendees to scramble for safety. Kirk was struck in the neck and later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police have described the suspect as a man dressed in black tactical gear with a long gun and aviator glasses. One person of interest has been taken into custody, though authorities have not confirmed whether he is the shooter.
President Donald Trump confirmed Kirk’s death in a post on Truth Social, calling him a key figure in energizing young voters. Leaders from across the political spectrum have condemned the shooting and called for an end to political violence.
Kirk co-founded Turning Point USA in 2012 and became one of the most influential conservative activists of his generation, frequently engaging students on college campuses and rallying young voters behind Trump.
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
