Man Arrested for Assaulting Elderly Man Over K17,00 in Nkhata Bay

Police in Nkhata Bay have arrested a 24-year-old man, Enock Kambalame, for allegedly assaulting 61-year-old Wizaso Wyson.
The incident occurred on September 8, 2025, at around 6:00 p.m. at Kavuzi Trading Center in the district.
According to Sergeant Enala Kalua, Public Relations Officer at Nkhata Bay Police Station, Wyson and Kambalame were drinking beer when a disagreement arose. Wyson requested the return of K17,000 he had given Kambalame for safekeeping. The disagreement escalated into a physical fight, during which Kambalame reportedly injured Wyson on his left arm. Wyson fled to his home but began feeling unwell.
The matter was reported to the Mzenga Police Unit. Wyson was first treated at Mzenga Health Center and later referred to Nkhata Bay District Hospital for further care.
Kambalame, who hails from Mlenga Village, Traditional Authority Mphuka, in Thyolo District, is expected to appear in court soon to answer charges of assault.
