Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Annabel Mtalimanja has dismissed claims that police and military personnel have already cast their votes.

Speaking at a press conference in Lilongwe, Mtalimanja said it is not possible for anyone to vote in secret, as the voting process is conducted in the presence of accredited monitors to ensure transparency.

She clarified that all eligible voters, including members of the security forces, will cast their votes on September 16. No one is voting ahead of the scheduled day, she emphasized.

Mtalimanja also stated that the security of voting equipment is very strict, as it is being safeguarded by both the police and the military.

Malawi is expected to hold general election on Tuesday next week.
